The Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held in the Club House on Wednesday 17th January. It will be preceded at 7.30 PM with a Special General Meeting.
The Special meeting will consider a number of constitutional changes.
One of them is to adopt a Child Protection Policy the wording of which is contained in the booklet Code of Ethics & Good Practise for Children’s Sport which is published by the Sports Council for Northern Ireland and the Irish Sports Council. The full text of this booklet is available on the Sports Council web site www.sportni.org just search with the name of the document. This will ensure that the club complies with the Children’s (Northern Ireland) Order 1995.
Another change involves a twinning arrangement with the National Yacht Club. This will allow members and their guests the use of National Yacht Club facilities, pontoons, restaurant and bar, at the same charges as NYC members.
The Annual meeting will, as usual, appoint the Officers and Committee for 2002. This team will take the Club forward next year and I know that they will be well supported by the Membership.

Is always appreciated. There are many small tasks which can be carried by individual members who are not on the Committee but with the Committees approval. Sam Penney, for instance, has taken the task of managing boat space in the boat park. Alec Kirkpatrick looks after the racing marks. There are other tasks which need done on a regular bases. Some members could act as Club Boson for example. Perhaps one member could look after one club boat.
One area where help would be greatly appreciated would be financial data input. Roy Hamilton does a sterling job as Honorary Treasurer and I assume will continue next year. He is not computer literate and would greatly appreciate help from a computer literate member.

has become one of the first clubs in Northern Ireland to be granted the status of
This scheme gives young members the opportunity of appropriate competition and brings a number of benefits not least of which is that Lottery Sports Fund now expect that all clubs looking for Lottery money will be expected to commit to the Sports Councils Clubmark scheme and Champion Club is an important building block to acquiring the Clubmark Award.
Cohn de Fleury and his band of helpers are to be congratulated in their efforts with Junior Members throughout the year. Without this it would have been impossible to attain the criteria for Champion Club status.
The requirements are for appropriate competition for young people in the Optimist, Topper and Minor dinghies. It is the first step in giving all of them the opportunity to fulfil their potential in our sport. For those with particular talent this is the first step in competing at the highest level.

A small commission/donation to RNLI for anything sold would be appreciated
I’m delighted to be able to say that the Sports Council for N. I. Lottery fund have made the Club an offer of funding a RIB Safety Boat for 70% of the cost to a maximum of £14,000. The offer has some conditions. One of which is continued support for the Sailability project.
A Child Protection Policy as set out in the Code of Ethics for Children’s Sport is another as is an Equity Statement to prove that the Club welcomes everyone whatever their colour, creed, political opinion, social background or sexual orientation. None of this should be a problem for any right-thinking member.
The Committee, and specially, Joe McEvoy, are to be congratulated on their efforts.
