Notice of Race

1. Rules

1.1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2. The prescriptions of the RYA will apply.

1.3. The rules of the International Topper Class Association (Ireland) (ITCAI) shall apply.

2. Advertising

2.1. Category C advertising is permitted.

3. Eligibility and Entry

3.1. The event is open to boats of the International Topper class.

3.2. All competitors must be members of the International Topper Class Association.

3.3. Eligible boats may enter on-line at www.carrickfergussc.org or by completing the attached form and sending it, together with the required fee of £55/€70, to Carrickfergus Sailing Club by Friday 8th August.

3.4. Entries may be accepted after this date for an increased entry fee of £60/€75.

4. Schedule

4.1. Registration: 17:00 to 19:00 on Friday 15th August, 08:00 to 10:00 on Saturday 16th August.

4.2. Briefing: 10:30 on Saturday 16th August

4.3. Dates of racing: Saturday 16th to Monday 18th August.

4.4. Number of races: 9. There will be a maximum of 4 races on any one day.

4.5. The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first day is 12:00. No warning signal will be made after 15:30 on Monday.

5. Sailing Instructions

5.1. The Sailing Instructions will be available at Registration. They may be available on the club website at www.carrickfergussc.org before that time.

6. The Venue

6.1. Racing will be held in the waters of Belfast Lough near Carrickfergus.

7. The Courses

7.1. The courses to be sailed will be as follows: Trapezoidal and Triangular.

8. Scoring

8.1. Three races are required to be completed to constitute a series.

8.2. When fewer than six races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

8.3. When six or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

9. Prizes

9.1. The Irish Championship Trophy and prizes * will be presented to boats normally berthed in Ireland, helmed by a helmsman normally domiciled in Ireland & a member of ITCA Ireland.

9.4. Daily prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the Race Committee.

10. Disclaimer of Liability and Insurance

10.1. A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility.

10.2. It is for the boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the conditions in which she will find herself. By launching or going to sea, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and her crew is competent to sail and compete in them.

10.3. The boat is required to hold adequate insurance and in particular to hold insurance against third party claims in the sum of at least £2m sterling.

10.4. Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in racing. The organisers encompass everyone helping to run the race and the event, and include the organising authority, the race committee, the race officer, patrol boats and beach masters.

10.5. The provision of patrol boats does not relieve the boat of her responsibilities.
