Bit short notice I know, but the intention (technology permitting) is to show the start of Leg 1 of the Volvo Ocean Race on the big screen in the club. The start time is 13:00 with coverage running from 12:45. Hopefully we'll have the video streaming from the VOR web site with the race tracker running as well.

Several members of the club were down in Dun Laoghaire last week for the inaugural Laser SB3 World Championship. 132 boats attended the event from Ireland, UK, France, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, USA, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Netherlands & Portugal
Trevor D'Arcy, Simon Hutchinson, Sinead Hutchinson managed 3rd overall in the Silver fleet.
Gavin Pollard, Steve Atkinson, Richard McCaig had an unfortunate event with a broken bowsprit during the 1st downwind leg of the 1st race that lead to a collection of letters rather than numbers on the first day that was never recoverable from to end up in 56th.
Domhnall Macauley made it down with various crew for a few days at the start of the regatta.

Taz wins J24 Nationals for second time,beating the 2007 ISA Helmsman Champion Stefan Hyde (also 2007 J/24 National Champion) into 3rd place. Helmed by Michael Ennis of Elvstrom sails, who supplied the sails for the event, and crewed by Paul Barbour, Steve Ferris, Conor Brennen and Gordon Taylor.
A successful weekend on the 6/7 September for juniors from the club that travelled down to Carlingford Lough Yacht Club for the RYA Northern Ireland Youth Championship

The Michael Slattery Flying Fifteen Challenge Cup is on this Saturday 23rd August. Sailing Instructions are now available. The start time for the "Feeder" race from Whitehead still has to be confirmed with interested parties. Let us know if you intend to do the race down on Friday evening.

Three boats owned by members of the club were up at West Highland Yachting Week recently. Jim Shields & Drew McClennaghan's Slippi Jin won class 6 overall and Michael & Elaine Mc Keown's Manana was placed 7th. Joe Kerr on Taika finished 2nd in Class 4.
