Summer Training Courses

Course fees for all courses are £100 for members and £142 for non-members including junior associate (under 18) membership fee for 2021. The use of club boats is included.

Courses are open to participants age 8 to 17 years.


Mon 5th – Friday 9th July – Double Handed sailing

Open to those holding RYA Level 4 and above

Full day 10am to 4pm

By the end of this course you will have the skills to sail a double-handed boat as crew or helm and solve a variety of problems afloat. You will have an opportunity to sail different boats including Quba, Bahia and Feva.


Mon 19th July – Friday 23rd July – Racing preparation

Full day 10 am to 4pm

With the Topper Irish Nationals coming to Carrickfergus in August and the youth championships being held here in September Ellen McCarlie will be working with those Juniors who are ready for competitive racing. The session will focus on starts, race strategy, race mentality, racing rules and meteorology among other things.


Mon 26th July – Fri 30th July – RYA Youth Sailing Stage 1 & 2 for beginners

Full day 10 am to 4pm

By the end of this course, you will have a range of sailing skills and a background knowledge, and be well on the way to being a confident small boat sailor.


Mon 9th Aug – Fri 13th Aug – RYA Youth Sailing Stage 1 & 2

Full Day 10am to 4pm

By the end of this course, you will have a range of sailing skills and a background knowledge, and be well on the way to being a confident small boat sailor.


Mon 16th Aug – Fri 20th Aug – RYA Youth Sailing Stage 3 & 4

Children must have completed stage 1&2 at time of booking and be able to demonstrate at least 12 months experience since obtaining awards

Full Day 10am to 4pm

By the end of this course, you will be able to sail in any direction and rig and launch your boat. Your skills and know mean that you can regard yourself as a sailor, not a beginner.
