R.Y.A. Day Skipper Shore based Course Commencing 2nd February 2022

This course gives a basic, but reasonably comprehensive, introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology and seamanship for the yachts person. International Rules for the Prevention of Collision at Sea are also covered. The course does not assume extensive prior knowledge, and is therefore suitable for relative beginners. However, sailors with a good measure of practical experience, but less theoretical knowledge, might well also find the course valuable. The full R.Y.A. syllabus will be covered, and extended as necessary to cover local issues and other relevant material.

Classes are on Tuesday evenings 19.00 – 21.30, starting 1st February 2022. but on Wednesday evening on 20th April (because of Easter). Also there are two Saturday mornings 19th March & 16th April. In total there are 17 classes plus two assessment sessions. ‘Homework’ will be set after most classes

R.Y.A. Course notes, practice charts, booklets and Training Almanac will be provided to students on the course. The Training Almanac must be returned on completion of the course. You will need to bring dividers, parallel rules or plotter, 3B pencils and a note pad for exercises
