R.Y.A. Day Skipper Shorebased Course Commencing 1st November 2022

This course gives a basic, but reasonably comprehensive, introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and seamanship for the yachtsperson. International Rules for the Prevention of Collision at Sea are also covered. The course does not assume extensive prior knowledge, and is therefore suitable for relative beginners. However, sailors with a good measure of practical experience, but less theoretical knowledge, might well also find the course valuable. The full R.Y.A. syllabus will be covered, and extended as necessary to cover local issues and other relevant material.

Classes are weekly on Tuesday evenings 19.00 – 21.30, starting 1st November 2022. Also there are two Saturday mornings 7th January & 18th February. In total there are 17 classes plus two assessment sessions. ‘Homework’ will be set after most classes

R.Y.A. Course notes, practice charts, booklets and Training Almanac will be provided to students on the course. The Training Almanac must be returned on completion of the course. You will need to bring dividers, parallel rules or plotter, 3B pencils and a note pad for exercises

The cost of the course will be: CSC Members (including Junior Associate and 18-25 Associate): £200. Non-members: £350
