J/24 Northern Championship Postponement

The Committee of Carrickfergus Sailing Club have taken the decision to postpone the J/24 event due to be hosted by the club on 16/17 May.

This is based on the RYA recommendation that all sailing be cancelled up until at least the end of April.

We realize that this means that people will feel unable to commit to the event until much too close to the time, both as competitors and organizers.

We will be issuing refunds for any entries paid to date.

There has been discussion with the club and J/24 Association of Ireland around a suitable date to reschedule the event to and  8/9 August is the best option available currently, but this is still obviously dependent on circumstances related to the lockdown both in Ireland and the UK.

Hopefully we can firm that up and confirm it once the state of play with the lockdown becomes clearer over the next months.

Update from the Committee

Slipway Progress

The contractor managed to get the first two pours of concrete done as planned last week but unfortunately due to the closure of the concrete supplier the planned third pour did not take place to the area where you will see the reinforcement in place. The contractor worked right up until Saturday 28th March but it looks as though works will now be suspended for the foreseeable future.

You will note temporary rock placement and lot of rock sitting on original slip for storage reduces full width of slip in certain photographs!

Other Sailing News

Four RS Quba’s are loaded up for transportation from RS in Southampton to CSC. Hopefully they will delivered soon, and in time for us starting up sailing activities. Additionally the race marks are all launched to enable a quick start to the season once we get the all clear.

Now the contractor is off site the boatpark and main gates are closed. Access, if absolutely necessary, can be arranged in advance by emailing yard@carrickfergussc.org

COVID-19

The Club and its grounds remain closed and while we are missing our sailing and our socialising the most important thing for now is the health and wellbeing of our members and staff.

We all need to do our best to stop the spread of Coronavirus and the best way to do this is to STAY AT HOME

Please:

  • only go outside for food, health reasons (collect medicines or for daily exercise)
  • if you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times;
  • stop all unnecessary travel;
  • do not meet with friends and family – keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media;
  • you can ring NHS111 for information or advice and they will help you decide if you need to contact your GP;
  • wash your hands well and often, and avoid touching your face

Remember STAY HOME, STAY SAFE

Carrickfergus Sailing Club Boat Details List update request

The Club has been requested by the Belfast Lough Yachting Conference to update its list of member’s boats for 2020.

Can you please check the list of boat details on the club website and advise us of any updates:

Has a boat you owned left the club or been sold to someone else in the club?

Are there any errors or omissions in the information we have about your boat?

Have you bought a new boat?

We will list the details for any member’s boat on our website, but for it to be included in the list of BLYC booklet for boats that go to regattas a valid sail number must be included.

If you intend to race in any of the NHC keelboat classes either within the club or at Belfast Lough regattas then we need to know the make and model of your boat to locate the base number from the RYA.

The current details we hold for members boats are shown on the club website at: http://www.carrickfergussc.org/boat-details/

Please advise any changes to steve.atkinson@carrickfergussc.org as soon as possible.

Thanks for your assistance

Steve Atkinson on behalf of the Sailing Committee

Activity Update

Further to the email issued on 17th March the General Committee can clarify that all organised activity at Carrickfergus Sailing Club is suspended until 30th April. This includes club racing, training, bar and restaurant as well as all social events.

When they are on site, the slip contractors open the main gates and this will also give access to the boat yard. Should you require access at any other time please make an advanced request by emailing yard@carrickfergussc.org

The Committee will continue to update members over the coming weeks when there is further advice available from the Government and other organisations.

The health and safety of our members and those in the local community remain our priority through this difficult time. If you find yourself isolated or in need of support or assistance please contact secretary@carrickfergussc.org

Irish Boat Jumble 2020 – Coronavirus Update

In light of the very recent advice/recommendations from UK and International Governments, the Organising Committee has made the decision to cancel the 2020 Jumble due to have been held on 3 May at Carrickfergus Sailing Club.

The health of our members, traders, visitors and staff has to be our priority at this time.

A date for the 2021 Jumble will be agreed in the coming months and the website updated accordingly.

Slipway update

The slipway widening project got underway at the start of February and got hit by the unprecedented series of storms which occurred this winter and certainly presented the contractor CIVCO with unexpected challenges. The good news however is that whilst progress is behind that anticipated good progress has been made in the last couple of weeks and with the temporary coffer dam in place excavation has progressed as the drone photos will show and whilst the rock armour is only temporary at the moment the work to pour the slip should be happening very soon and then the armour can be permanently placed in position.

IMORTANT Update for all members – Covid 19 (Coronavirus)
